What is a Verti Cutter?

A verti cutter, also known as turf verticutter or vertical cutting machine, is a professional turf care equipment widely used on golf greens, football pitches, sports fields and high-quality lawn areas.

Many turf managers confuse verti cutters with scarifiers or aerators, but they have obvious differences in working principle and application scenarios.

The core of the verti cutter is a rotary reel fitted with a set of vertical steel blades.

When the machine moves forward, the high-speed rotating blades slice vertically into the turf profile, cutting through the thatch layer, old stolons and dead root tissues in a controlled depth, instead of tearing the turf roughly.

The working depth of the verti cutter can be adjusted flexibly according to turf types and growth stages.

For delicate golf putting greens, operators usually set a shallow depth from 1mm to 3mm, only trimming the surface thatch and promoting upright grass growth, which helps stabilize green speed and surface smoothness.

For sports turf with thick thatch accumulation, the depth can be increased appropriately to cut old root systems, break the compacted layer and create tiny vertical slits.

These slits allow air, water and fertilizer to penetrate smoothly into the root zone, solving the common problem of nutrient blockage caused by excessive thatch.

Different from hollow tine aerators that make discrete holes, verti cutting forms continuous linear cuts.

It is a precision maintenance process between grooming and heavy scarification.

After verti cutting, the loosened thatch and debris will be brought to the turf surface, which can be cleaned by brush sweeper or turf blower.

Regular verti cutting is a must for high-standard turf management.
